Need help modding.
« on: May 20, 2011, 08:29:05 PM »
Hey guys, I haven't been on here in ages, but first, please move this if it's in the wrong section.

I was wondering how I can make my own mod for diablo 2. I am using PlugY v10.00 and I have a Hex editor called "xv132".

What I want to know is how can I change: Max level, stat points per level up and skill points per level up.
I also would like to know how to add/edit items, change exp gained from monsters and the like.
If you have a site with all of this please refer me to it so you don't have to type alot.

Thanks in advance,
Aiw1

Hi, yes SNEJ have a own Place for Modding you find it under D2SE > General Modding.

For all your changes you dont need to edit the code. There are 2 way. One is to edit the code which is only with 101010010 and so on, so u need a hex editor and a program that u can read the binary code as assamber, but its much harder than the other way. The easier way is to edit the .txt files. You just need a mpq editor and a programm like excel. But not every thing is change able with .txt edtitng. But all your changes you can do with it.

On this site are the .txt explained. How you can export and import the .txt files from .mpq files you better read a guide, there is probably a guide on this site, too.

Max lvl  > experience.txt

stat per lvl > charstats.txt

skill points per lvl > there is no column for it, but u can do it with .txtediting too. there is a guide for it

edit items > here are many .txt it depends what u want u edit
some examples:
base items > armors/weapons/misc.txt
sets > setitems/sets.txt
uniques > uniquesitems.txt
and you can change a lot more like preffixes and suffixes of magic or rare items and make other automod and so on just look at the names of .txt

monster gained exp > monstats/monlvl.txt

Thanks for the reply, would you happen to know of a good mpq program? Because I tried Winmpq and it just says it can't find VB40032.dll but I have it. :-\

Its a good programm. Just donwload the missing .dll and try again, i had the same problem. after it work u must go into option and under filelists u have to add "mpql.txt", you can download it from the page i posted, if u dont add this filelist, the files u can see will have crap names and you wouldnt know which is which .txt

when u make .txt editing look frist in patch_d2.mpq, if u dont find the .txt you want look in d2exp.mpq and at last in d2data.mpq. all changed .txt put into patch_d2. but better dont work with  the .txts from the original .mpq some are bugged. downlaod the fixed .txts.
make the change in the .txt files u want, convert it via game to .bin files and put the .bin only or the .bin and the .txts files in the patch_d2.mpq. there are guide how to do it exactly.
